This August, as the vibrant colours of Pride fill the streets of Ely, we’re creating a special space for families to find comfort, connection, and support. Amidst the joyous celebrations of Ely Pride on August 9th, we are thrilled to host our Breast and Chestfeeding Support Cafe – a tranquil haven for parents and little ones. Whether you’re a new parent navigating the beautiful journey of feeding your child, an expectant parent with questions, or an ally looking to support loved ones, we welcome you with open arms.
I bottle fed and I breast fed, and before I knew it, they were all eating stale french fries off the floor of the minivan, and I was like, whatever…thanks for cleaning. – Joslyn Gray
What is the Breast and Chestfeeding Support Cafe?
Our cafe is more than just a place to feed your baby; it’s a sanctuary of support and solidarity. We offer a calm and inclusive environment where all families, including LGBTQ+ parents, can feel comfortable and celebrated. Here, you can:
- Feed your baby in a relaxed setting: We have comfortable seating and a welcoming atmosphere.
- Connect with other parents: Share experiences, ask questions, and build your community.
- Access resources and support: Our knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to offer a listening ear and signpost to helpful services. We use inclusive language like “chestfeeding” and “bodyfeeding” to ensure everyone feels seen and respected.
Why is this Space So Important, Especially at Pride?
Pride is a time to celebrate our identities and our families in all their diversity. For many LGBTQ+ individuals, the path to parenthood comes with unique joys and challenges. We believe that everyone deserves access to supportive and affirming feeding resources. Our cafe is a visible declaration that parenting and feeding have a celebrated place within the LGBTQ+ community. It’s a space to nourish both your baby and your sense of belonging.
Who is the Cafe For?
Everyone is welcome! This includes:
- Mothers, fathers, non-binary parents, and trans parents.
- Those who are breastfeeding, chestfeeding, bottle-feeding with formula or expressed milk. (We will have facilities to boil water, though due to health and safety a member of my team will need to boil and pour it for you)
- Expectant parents who are curious about feeding options.
- Partners, grandparents, friends, and allies.

I will also be around to answer your questions and I plan to have a couple of sessions for ‘Ask the Midwife’ (times to be confirmed).
